Is online dating for you? |
In the name of research (and out of rabid curiosity), I signed onto Match.com to see what the site is all about. Without giving a single piece of information about myself, I was able to search for non-smoking men, aged 45-50, who live within 10 miles of me and work out 3-4 times a week. You know what? There are 230 of them!
Some of them are very cute too. Hello, there "AlmostDflawless" in Highland Park. Although your name indicates a certain lack of humility. Maybe "hungryandthirst" from Chicago or "lovemykids1012" from Glenview is more my style. And he's online right now, maybe...
Okay, I've snapped out of it. But you see how addictive it can be. It's a virtual catalogue of potential dates.
If you are single and sick of the bar scene or awkward fix-ups, why not give dating websites a try? If you'd like to read about some success stories and ways to get the most out of your online experience, check out these two articles I wrote for MakeitBetter.net:

Well, I think you should probably hear the opposite (male) point of view on this. I signed up for match.com and found the following to be the case: 1. a majority of the profiles were fake, simply there to entice you into signing up or the profile was created by someone trying to trick you into going to some other website. 2. The women on there are mainly only interested in looks. I find that aspect extremely interesting considering that it's supposed to be men that are the shallow ones.
My profile was very nice and sweet and clearly showed that I'm a stable, successful individual and I hardly received any responses. And the women that I sought after wouldn't even give me the courtesy of a reply. I'm through with online dating. Now the question is, where do I meet someone?
Ericb6,
That's too bad, online dating obviously isn't for everyone. You sound like a great guy, I guess it's best for you to go old school - ask your friends to fix you up! And if you live in the Chicago area you could try Ms. Matchmaker - she takes only male clients and knows lots of fabulous women.
Good luck and thanks for your comments.
Marjie
